Wrong citation format only for items with last name "Ramos"

When Ramos is the last name, the in-text citation appears with the person's first name as well - ie, (Alcida Ramos 1998) instead of just (Ramos 1998).

Yes, this seems really absurd, but I have created a few test references with the only difference being "Ramos" in the last name field. I have two citations for different women with the last name Ramos in my dissertation and need this to be fixed!!!!

I tried this on a different computer not running windows 7, and was able to reproduce the phenomenon when there were at least two citations with the last name Ramos. I made up new citations with a new bibliography to rule out some weird macros settings or something. One citation will not make it happen - must have at least two Ramos citations in the document.

Any ideas?!! Please help
  • Thank you! I will try to correct other instances of the name, although I still don't know why it happened in the new database that I created on a different computer with only 3 or 4 sources. None of them had similar first names.
  • Hmm, I searched for Ramos and there are only two. And they have very different names: Alcida and Myra Bergman. Still having issues.
  • Note that the style likely requires the use of the first name (or possibly initial) when two different Ramos authors are cited. Double-check your style guide. If you are completely sure that you don't need the disambiguation, it is possible to modify the style to not disambiguate.

    well, but that's what disambiguation is designed for - so that you can tell apart Marta Ramos from Silvia Ramos so the first names will definitely remain in there.
    It's possible to turn that off in the style itself though
    just take out the line
    <option name="disambiguate-add-givenname" value="true"/>

    edit: overlap with ajlyon - first do what he says and double check.
