ScienceDirect translator fails to download PDFs

For a long time now it has been the case that the ScienceDirect translator doesn't download PDFs. Is there a technical reason for this?

The PDF url is messy and encodes a user id and md5 hash and loads of other stuff, but when I go to it directly it does immediately download the PDF, so it seems nothing should stand in the way of simply grabbing it.

This holds for all ScienceDirect articles as far as I know. Here's an example: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/B6VB6-3SX80VJ-3/2/58ce016314a6fe89018ffea4239a4ab0
  • I wanted to ask about the same thing. It has been broken for quite some time now. (Perhaps because of a website update?)
  • I'll see what the translator hackers have to say about this and get back to you. It does look simple enough.
  • The PDF logic was in the translator, but it seems that it has been broken for time immemorial. The updated translator that now saves PDFs is in Zotero SVN (https://www.zotero.org/trac/changeset/6932).

It will hopefully get pushed to users soon. Otherwise, you can download it and put it in the translators directory of your Zotero data directory and the translator will start working.
  • The updated ScienceDirect translator is now available. I've also disabled the icon for search-results mode, which doesn't work currently. Your copy of Zotero should auto-update within 24 hours, or you can update manually by clicking Update Now in the General pane of the Zotero prefs.

Thanks to ajlyon for the fix.
  • Thanks! I wish I'd asked sooner!
  • Super !!! Thanks so much !
  • Dan, ajlyon - any reason the search results are still disabled? I tried re-enabling them and it works fine for me.
  • Fixed and pushed. I don't know why they were disabled either, but they certainly do work.
