Firefox crashing after Zotero update

Firefox 3.5.2
Zotero 2.0.7
PythonExt 2.6.2.20100203
Zotero MacWord Integration 3.0b3

When I try to start Firefox, the icon bounces once in the Dock and then crashes (I get the Firefox crash reporter). I can start in Safe Mode without a problem, or in regular mode with all add-ons disabled. I have no extensions other than the three listed above. I tried disabling all plugins (Flash, etc.), but it still crashed. Firefox will start with just the PythonExt or with PythonExt and MacWord Integration, but not with any combination involving Zotero itself.
  • any reason you're running an old version of Firefox?

    Firefox 3.5.12

I just installed 2.0.7 and have the same problem with Firefox on my mac.
  • I just upgraded Firefox to 3.6.9, and that solved the problem. I forgot to mention it in my first post, but this problem began right after upgrading Zotero (I think... I didn't look that closely at the update before installing it, so it might have been a different Zotero-related component or maybe even a Firefox update).
  • This is my wife's computer, so I don't know why she was running the old Firefox; probably just never bothered to click 'OK' to the software updates or whatever.
  • OK - that seems to be it then.
Not great - 3.5 isn't _that_ old and Zotero should certainly work with it, but on the other hand it's generally a bad idea to run outdated browser versions, as most of the incremental updates between major versions are bug and security fixes.
  • I had the same issue with Firefox 3.5.7, and tried 3.5.12 and still had the problem. Upgrading to Firefox 3.6.9 fixed it.

However, I have some other extensions that aren't compatible with Firefox 3.6, so that's kind of too bad.
  • We're looking into this.
  • OK, this is absolutely a bug in Firefox 3.5—the code that was triggering it was valid and wasn't even code that was run on startup—but I've put in a workaround.

If you're running Firefox 3.5, please try the latest 2.0 Branch dev XPI (starting up in Safe Mode first if need be) and let us know if it fixes the problem for you.
  • I just installed the upgrade for Zotero 2.0.7 for Firefox. Immediately following, Firefox crashed and would not start. I uninstalled the Zotero extension, and Firefox works.

Temporarily, could you revoke the 2.0.7 upgrade and revert to the previous version?

    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5
  • Temporarily, could you revoke the 2.0.7 upgrade and revert to the previous version?
We've already done so. We'll push 2.0.8 as soon as we have some confirmation that it fixes the problem.
  • The 2.0 Branch dev XPI (2.0.7.r6709) works.

    Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-US; rv:1.9.1) Gecko/20090624 Firefox/3.5
  • 2.0.8 is out with this fix.
