That may be a daft question, but why some records in this window for inserting reference are marked with grey colour and other are black? Does it mean something, that black references are already in the document?

Expand the items.

The black ones likely have metadata that matches your search terms. The grey ones likely do not, but have child attachments that match your terms (e.g. the indexed PDFs may have "technocratic policy", but these words are not in the title, abstract, etc.).
