Editing documents with previous Endnote citations

Hi,
I've finally had it after years of Endnote. I've switched to Zotero, and just successfully imported my bibliography. But how do I now work with my documents, which contain Endnote citations? Do I need to delete and manually reinsert every single one of them (this would make the switch impossible, since I'm working with a 400pp dissertation/book manuscript) or is there some way that would convert them to being editable with Zotero?
I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find the answer - I apologize in advance is this has already been discussed.
Many thanks
Anya
  • Short answer: There is no way of doing this at the moment. There are other threads on the forum on this, some of them seem more optimistic about the general feasability of this, I doubt it is ever going to happen.

I wouldn't overestimate how much time you'd need to re-insert your references, but if you feel that's not possible you're stuck with Endnote for this project.

This is very sad... But thank you so much for the answer - this is good to know. You're right, maybe I'll just bite the bullet and re-insert everything. Not looking forward to this though!
  • It's tedious, but it's also the kind of thing you could probably do at the end of the day, over a couple of nights. Shouldn't be too bad.

FWIW, I used Endnote for my dissertation, and when then subsequently working on my first book based on it, ditched it because it + Word were so buggy. I replaced it with the prototype I wrote that I guess I could say inspired Zotero's formatting functionality. Suffice to say, my solution took a lot more work! I never regretted it though.
