Error: Bad Script: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translate.js:255

So for the past couple of months my Firefox browser's been buggy, and in particular seems to crash a lot around Zotero. I get a pop up that says that there's been:

Error Bad Script: chrome://zotero/content/xpcom/translate.js:255

Which has gone non responsive.

Two questions:

1) Any ideas how to fix this? I think it's dragging down the performance of Firefox and Zotero. I'm using Firefox 3.5.7 and Zotero 2.0.3. I think my Java's recent.

2) How should I answer the stop script or continue question the pop up window asks?

Thanks!
  • That message means that a site translator is taking longer than perhaps it should. If you get it consistently with certain sites, please post the relevant URLs so we can look into it.

If you are not planning on capturing items from the pages you are viewing, you can safely click the "Stop" button.
  • It depends somewhat on precisely when you're getting that message, but I would actually never recommend clicking Stop Script to that message.

At least some people who get that warning on that particular line seem to get it at the first Firefox startup after a restart of Windows, which as far as we can tell seems to be due to extremely poor uncached disk read performance on Windows. We may be able to address this somewhat, but a whole lot of things are probably slow after a restart on systems affected by this problem—the default unresponsive script warning in Firefox may just make it more noticeable.
