Feature Request: Sync files via Google Docs

So far there is sync-support via Zotero Storage and WebDAV.

There are millions of gmail-users, who would certainly appreciate a third
option to sync files via Google Docs.
  • Google Docs is not for general file storage.
  • yes it is (now)

Well, I found a way which seems to work (tested on the standalone soft).

you can create a webDAV access to your google doc using DAV-pocket lab:
    https://dav-pocket.appspot.com/
Dav-pocket looks to be trustable (a google product I think), but they advise user to create a separated google account, and to share files and folders. Just in case.

Once the webDav access is created, in the file sync setting of zotero, input the dav-pocket address and login as indicated.

    However,
    1) I am not too sure if it is the https://dav-pocket.appspot.com/docso (as indicated on the site) or .../docs (which works for me) that should be given to zotero
    2) take care of login letter cases: my login contains upper cases, but I manage to log only using a lower case name
    3) Zotero does not save the attached file directly on your google doc. But instead it saves zip files containing them, and they have unreadable names... not really nice...
conclusion : it's really only a backup, not suitable for use within google docs...
  • official support for this by zotero would be fantastic.
  • Zotero officially supports WebDav. Since apparently google docs now offers a WebDav, Zotero officially supports sync with google docs.

The issue with zipped files is unavoidable, if you want/need online access to your files you'll need to use Zotero Storage, for technical reasons that have been explained on various threads by Zotero devs.
