Cambridge University Press style?

The closest that I can find to the style I need is the Harvard Reference Format 1, though the date needs to be in brackets and I need the full first names of the authors. As far as I can gather, this is the only difference; could anybody please advise me on how to amend a referencing style?
  • There is no official CUP style - different CUP journals and series have different styles.

You can change reference style either by changing the .csl style
    http://www.zotero.org/support/csl_simple_edits
or by requesting a new/changed style

Thanks ever so much - I'll have a go at doing a simple edit but, if I can't do it, I'll put a request for the specific journal that it's for (Language and Society) and will see if anybody's able to help me out.

    Cheers, Adam.
  • Hi again,

I've tried - and failed - to edit into the style I need, but just can't work it. Could anybody please help me? What I need is basically the Harvard Reference Format 1 that is currently in the style repository, but with the following changes:

Full Christian names for all authors, rather than initial only
    Date of publication in brackets
Pg numbers after the title of the edited volume/journal article (instead of at the end of the entire reference)

I'm sure I should be able to work this out for myself, but I'm really struggling. The link to the specific reference system I need (it's for 'Language and Society' journal) is here: http://assets.cambridge.org/LSY/LSY_ifc.pdf

    Please could somebody help me?

    Thanks again
  • There is actually quite a lot else going on - I had a quick look and did what I could, let me know how it works, please:
    go here:
    http://gist.github.com/520210
download the style using the "Raw" link on the top right.
Install by dragging the downloaded file "language-in-society.csl" into any open Firefox window.
You will get prompted if you want to install the style - click OK.
Ignore the grey bar saying "no style information..." on top of the page.
If you do not get prompted to install, make sure windows hasn't changed or added a file ending.
Make sure Windows is set to show file extensions, and check that the file ends with .csl and not with .xml
  • I really appreciate this, thank you.

For book sections and books, the system that you have made is perfect.

For journal articles, it is mostly fine except for: there should be no comma after the publication and, after the volume/issue number, there needs to be a colon rather than a comma.

I didn't manage to download the style, but was able to copy and paste it into the test pane and see it with example references there. Will it be possible to save the style in the Zotero repository?

My thanks again for your assistance
  • eventually it will go up in the repository, but what part of downloading didn't work?
  • I could download it and then drag it into a new window, but wasn't given the option to install it. I worked with it using the test pane, and that way I've been able to get the bibliography in the format that you've created.
  • what happened when you dragged it to Firefox?
  • OK, the updated style is now on the new csl 1.0 repository at https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles and will eventually move to citationstyles.org
  • Hi guys,
Im struggling with the same problem, and trying to find the Cambridge University Press for Humanities and Social Sciences Style.
I tried the "language-in-society" but its not the most suitable, can some one help please?
I worked on the CLS but it was a bit to complicated for me :)
is there a solution for Cambridge Press for Humanities Style?

  • @aozdova
If you get all the info together that was requested under the link posted by adamsmith (requesting-styles) then we can have a look.
  • (given how old the thread is, not sure if any of the old links are still working. Here is the current info on requesting styles: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/wiki/Requesting-Styles )
  • Hello
    And thanks for the help

The style has a few aspects that I can't find in other styles (like Chicago or Harvard). I put examples and comments, I hope it will be clear.

How can I create such a style? As I wrote, I couldn't really work out the CSL site.
    Thanks so much
    Bless
    Adi

  • Hi,
Did I follow the instructions correctly?

    Thanks again
    Adi
  • You did, but there is quite a backlog still, so it'll take a bit of time. All the CSL volunteers are also quite busy at the moment. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zc3Sl4JU7Ltu0Q55-OB0QYCJbYiguVXwpc_BzBLLZcA/edit#gid=0

    @aozdova
Just looking into this, the style guidelines actually specify several styles (author-date, numeric, BMJ).
Which one are you after and I'll start with that.
Also, you added some example references, but could you also post a proper publication in the exact style you want?
