Search (and replace) enhancements: grep (regular expressions)

Would it be possible in a future iteration of Zotero to support grep / regular expressions? The % wildcard is very limited, perhaps a bit idiosyncratic (why not *?). And, built on that thought, I wondered if the entire search pane could be converted to search-and-replace, to support complex editing procedures.

for search and replace to work we would first need batch editing in general - there is a ticket, but currently not much movement.
