Book in Works vs. Book Section

Hi,
There is a problem with a book that is in a Complete Works. If I use "Section Book", the title will be like a chapter, not like a book (I use commas for chapters and italic for book). Is there a solution? I want to obtain:
1. for chapters: Author, "Title chapter", in Editor/Author, Title book etc.
2. for book in complete works: Author, Title book, in SameAuthor, Title Complete Works etc.
The Zotero make both the same (and I want a difference, commas and italics). Will you have a "Book in Works", like "Section Book", for make difference between them?
Is there another solution and I don't know it?
Thank you very very much,
Nicolae

  • What you are describing is a "Book in a multi-volume set," which is similar but not identical to "Book in a series" (some cases could go either way, but a series is generally more open ended). Zotero does not have explicit support for "Book in a multi-volume set" (since the database and UI have no place for 'set title.') I would guess that this is one of the cases that the developers intend to solve when support for 'relating' items to each other is added (which will be sometime after 1.0). This will mean you will be able to define the multi-volume set as an item, and each volume as an item which is a part of that (and if you like, each chapter as a part of the containing volume). (Then hopefully the styles will be able to make sense of that complexity!)

It seems like you have two options in the meantime: (1) use the "Series" field for the Title Complete Works, and try to make that work. It probably depends on what style you are using whether this appears as you hope. In the Chicago Manual of Style, (If my memory is correct) series titles are not italicized (and titles of multi-volume sets are), so it won't produce what you want exactly. Perhaps your style (you don't say which you use), will produce results more like what you want. Perhaps you can tweak the style (but only if you don't also need the series field for books in series).
You may be able (this is option 2) to add the Set Title manually each time. You don't say whether you use a word processor plugin or Zotero's quick-copy. The latter makes it very easy to add extra information like this. I think the word processor plugins have newly made it possible as well. There are a few tricky cases (like translated works for which you want to also cite the original) where you have to resort to tricks like this for the moment. I use quick-copy still, since I do have a few cases like this where I need to add information to the footnotes which Zotero isn't yet capable of handling.
  • Thank you, Scot,
Your answer is very good for my work!
    I choose your second option,
    thank you very much,
    Nicolae
