HELP accidental deletion of files
Hi, I recently wiped off the hard drive on my laptop. I had my zotero files synced to "my library" online. So, I thought I would face no problems. After my new hard drive was installed, I successfully installed zotero on my "new" laptop and downloaded/synced my files onto my laptop this afternoon from my library. So far, so good. . .
I realized, however, that I was missing the links to some attachments. So, following directions on this site, I found an old backup copy of my "storage" and "sqlite" files from an external hard drive. I moved these manually onto my desktop and then copied them into the data directory on Zotero's advanced preferences. After doing so, however, it seems that my library (both online and on my laptop) is vastly diminished. It includes only the entries associated with the storage attachments and not 100s of other entries. Are they gone forever? This is my dissertation, so I am very worried. How can I find them? I am only mildly computer savvy. So, I will need layperson instructions.

Turn off auto-sync for all of this, though.
Generally, I'm a bit confused how your online library should have been affected by using an old back-up (newer entries should not have been deleted - that's the nature of syncing). I'm not quite sure how that would happen, so first, triple check that that's really the case, then try to remember exactly if you did anything with your sync.
