trouble importing Zotero

I exported my library so that a friend could work on it for me, and when my friend opened it, every file was duplicated three times. Why did this happen? How can I stop it?

I figured it out... I had not emptied the trash.

If you intend to get your library back after your friend makes changes, you really want to use syncing, not export/import.

I just opened an account and I cannot figure out how to get anything into my library. When I click on my library it just says that its empty, no options to add anything. The different forums and tutorials don't address starting from scratch.
