error--won't synch because of illusory "Conflict Resolution Problem"

Zotero is telling me that it has tried to resolve a conflict regarding an item that I have in fact deleted (it says it is replacing the item with the item). It won't synch unless the conflict is resolved. It can't resolve the problem because I've deleted the item. We are at an impasse, Zotero and I. There is no obvious way to tell it that there is no conflict left to resolve and to go back to synching nicely.
Please advise!
  • The repeating conflict isn't preventing the sync—it's just a symptom of a failing sync.

    Check for a sync error.

  • Thanks, Dan--may I ask how to check for a sync error? I can't seem to find (or more to the point: figure out?) the relevant information.
  • From the page I linked to:
If you see a red error icon to the left of the sync icon, an error has occurred during the sync. Click the icon to view the error. It may give you enough information to fix the problem yourself, or you can report it and post the Report ID to the forums for further assistance.
  • Thanks again, Dan--sorry to trouble you!! Here's the Report ID--1835235533
It did not give me enough info to fix the problem myself--just told me that there was a conflict resolution issue that was preventing the sync.
  • Conflicts have suspended automatic syncing.

Click the sync icon to resolve them.
That doesn't show an actual error. Click the sync icon, and if you get an error then, report it.
  • Dan--I followed your instructions and unfortunately, I don't get an error message when I sync, only the same error that you saw. I tried again--here is the error report # 1061386106. I am still not able to sync. Please advise!
  • Is this information significant? sync.zotero.org : potentially vulnerable to CVE-2009-3555
  • I followed your instructions and unfortunately, I don't get an error message when I sync, only the same error that you saw.
Disable auto-sync in the Sync pane of the Zotero preferences, restart Firefox, open the Zotero pane, and click the sync icon. Do you get a sync error icon? If so, what's the message in the first dialog when you click it, and what's the Report ID after reporting it? You don't need to provide the errors from the error reporting wizard itself—just the Report ID.
    Is this information significant?
    No.
  • Dan,
I followed these instructions (disabling auto sync and restarting firefox). and when I clicked the sync icon, the "conflict resolution" page popped open--with the same conflict involving two versions of an item that I have since deleted. No sync error icon appeared. I sent an error report anyway--here's the #
    1063829804
Any further suggestions would be very helpful!
  • PS The weird thing about the so-called conflict is that it seems to have originated under circumstances (and during a period of time) when I was not working on Zotero on multiple computers.
  • Again, a repeating conflict isn't an error—it's just a symptom of a failing sync. You shouldn't get it on subsequent manual syncs (i.e., clicking the sync icon) unless the sync is actually failing, in which case you should see an error icon to the left of the sync icon.

Are you actually choosing one of the conflicted versions, though? You need to click select one Next/Finish—just closing the dialog cancels the sync.
  • Dan,
Thank you for the additional advice. I do understand that the repeating conflict isn't an error in and of itself and that it is a symptom of another problem. But when I do the manual sync, I get the "Conflict Resolution" page--and I do not seem to have the option of choosing one of the conflicted versions, nor am I offered the option of "next/finish." Moreover, I am not getting an error icon to the left of the sync icon (I did when it was syncing automatically, but no longer). I have looked very carefully and tried to follow your directions--but it isn't working--and I am not seeing what you describe. I apologize for the inconvenience--please continue to advise.
    Thanks!
  • Resize the window.
  • PS The conflict resolution page seems to be a kind of report of the merger of a "local object" and "remote object" (nothing listed) into a "merged object" (same as local object)
  • I just re-sized the window--and still, no option to next/finish.
  • It's in the bottom-right. If you can't see it, post a screenshot somewhere and provide a link to it here.
  • OK--but I am working on a mini-note--so maybe some of the screen is cut off? Let me try this on my husband's desk top and see what happens.
  • Yes. This is only a problem on netbooks.
  • You can probably also just hit Enter.
  • Dan! It worked!!! I hit enter, and the problem was solved!! A miracle! Thank you so much for your help (and for your patience!). Much appreciated! (the "finish" button was below the edge of the screen)...
    Whew.
