New plugin: Literature Daily Reading — Google Scholar email alerts to a Zotero reading list
Hi everyone,
I’d like to share Literature Daily Reading, a free, MIT-licensed Zotero plugin that helps turn literature-alert emails into a daily reading list.
If you subscribe to Google Scholar alerts, you may recognize the routine: open an email, scan the titles, follow the interesting links, and then save the papers to Zotero. This plugin brings the candidate-review step into Zotero so you can choose what to read and add selected papers to a “每日待读” (Daily Reading) collection.
What it does
• Reads Google Scholar alert emails over IMAP/TLS in read-only mode, without marking messages as read.
• Presents candidate papers in a searchable list for review and selection.
• Translates English titles into Chinese, with configurable translation services.
• Imports selected papers into your personal Zotero library. The batch import-and-download action also asks Zotero to find available full text; availability depends on access and the source.
• Accepts pasted alert emails or candidate JSON, and supports configurable JSON/RSS/Atom sources.
Getting started
1. Download literature-daily-reading.xpi from the latest release:
https://github.com/Yechuan480/literature-daily-reading/releases/latest
2. In Zotero, open Tools → Plugins and choose Install Plugin From File (or drag the XPI into the Plugins window), then restart if prompted.
3. Open Tools → Literature Daily Reading, configure your mailbox, and review your candidates.
The README includes screenshots, an animated walkthrough, Google Scholar search/alert links, and a Gmail setup guide covering two-step verification, app passwords, and IMAP. You can also try the pasted-email/JSON workflow before connecting a mailbox.

A few practical details
The current stable release is 0.5.0 and has completed maintainer testing. Mail access uses an app password rather than OAuth; the plugin does not send email via SMTP. Candidate data is stored locally. If you enable title translation, titles are sent to your selected translation provider. The README and PRIVACY.md explain these settings and data flows.
The interface and documentation are currently primarily in Chinese. The plugin is intended for a general literature-reading workflow across disciplines.
中文简介:这是一个将邮箱文献快讯整理为 Zotero 每日待读列表的开源插件,支持候选筛选、英文标题翻译、批量导入与可用全文查找;README 附有界面演示和邮箱配置教程。
I’d welcome feedback on alert parsing, mailbox setup, and the reading workflow. Please share questions here, or report reproducible problems through the repository’s Issues page (without passwords or private email contents):
