Word and Firefox on external drive

Hi. I use Zotero 2.0 and have Firefox 3.6 installed on an external drive (not portablefirefox, it is installed in a portable apps program). However when I try to insert a citation or do anything in word it says "Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure Firefox is running and try again". I tried restarting both programs and they don't work.
  • Does it work if you use a standard Firefox installation?
  • Works perfectly on a standard installation. I realise that the Zotero.dot add-in in Word is looking for the installation on the C: drive even though Firefox, zotero and its storage directory are located on the portable and the WinWord Integration was installed there as well
  • Ordinarily, it doesn't look for the installation on the C: drive—there is code to do this but it only gets called if you have ZoneAlarm installed with ForceField enabled, at least as far as we know.
  • Is there anyway that I can use the Zotero in FF on the external drive to communicate with MS Word or will I have to install Zotero locally on each computer I go on?
