Syncing issues across Mac and iPad
Hi there,
I'm having some confusing syncing issues happening across a couple of devices and after reading the syncing documentation I'm still not sure what's going on. None of the devices are showing an error, so I can't provide a support issue.
For context, I currently have a Zotero account with online storage that is synced between my Mac and an iPad. I generally use the Mac to add items, including attachments, and the iPad to read them and annotate PDFs.
Currently the Zotero subcollection structure on my iPad matches what is on my Mac, however the most recently added subcollections are empty, whereas on the Mac they contain records & attachments.
When I checked my online library as suggested by the documentation, that record seems different than both the iPad and Mac. It is missing multiple of the most recently added subcollections, including ones that have records in both the Mac and iPad. I'm confused why this is because I thought if records are missing in the web view they should not show up on the iPad, but they do. An example is this subcollection, which has subcollections "Week 10" and "Week 11" on both the iPad and Mac, but not here: https://www.zotero.org/chartsock/collections/XSFN4EWT/collection
In one case in the online library, however, there is a subcollection with records that have not successfully synced on the iPad that was added after some of the subcollections that are missing—this seems more in line with what I would expect if there were syncing issues on the iPad. When I try to sync this subcollection on my iPad nothing happens. Here is that subcollection URL: https://www.zotero.org/chartsock/collections/HM6YYZKF/collection
I seem to be able to manually sync successfully on the Mac—when I hover over the sync symbol, it says "last synced 1 second ago" with no visible issue. Here is a debug ID from the most recent time I attempted this: D987244320
I seem to be able to sync successfully on the iPad—when I pull down to refresh no error occurs, but nothing is updated.
Some ideas in case they're helpful:
- Recently I did upgrade my account storage on Zotero because I ran out of space. I think this may have been around the time that the web account now reflects.
- A few days ago, likely when the iPad last successfully updated the data, I had a data sync conflict on my Mac that was likely from using the iPad to annotate offline. This conflict seemed to be resolved successfully, though, and I received no further errors
I assume at this point it might make sense to replace the online library. Does that seem correct? Thank you!
