New plugin: Traveling Library — import EndNote references from Word and convert citations between Zo

Hi everyone,

I’ve developed a Zotero plugin called Traveling Library to help exchange Word manuscripts between people using Zotero and EndNote.

It currently supports:

• Importing references embedded in an EndNote-cited DOCX into a Zotero collection, without needing the original EndNote library.
• Recovering embedded metadata, including PMID, PMCID, URLs and other reference details, while preserving additional information in readable notes.
• Verifying references individually or in batches using PMID or DOI, retrieving available PubMed metadata, and reviewing proposed changes.
• Converting EndNote citation fields to Zotero fields linked to imported references.
• Converting Zotero citation fields to EndNote traveling-library fields.

Both conversion directions save a separate DOCX and leave the original unchanged.

Installation:
1. Download the .xpi file from the repository below.
2. In Zotero, go to Tools → Plugins → gear icon → Install Plugin From File.
3. Select the downloaded file, then fully restart Zotero.

The current version is 0.4.0. The installation manifest supports Zotero 7–10, with document-conversion commands available in Zotero 8–10.

The document converters are experimental. Automated tests check the generated fields and document structure, but Word add-in compatibility still needs broader desktop testing. Unsupported citation settings or conflicting metadata can stop conversion, and exact formatting after refreshing is not guaranteed.

I’d appreciate feedback, particularly from people collaborating across Zotero and EndNote. Please include your operating system, Zotero version and exact error message when reporting problems, plus Word and EndNote versions for conversion issues.

This is an independent community plugin, not an official Zotero or EndNote product.
