Every document has field codes instead of citations

Hi

I have a huge problem. Due to some warnings of changes in citations i tried to check if there were hidden field codes by option fn f9.
Then i used the wrong buttons and pressed fn command and F9 and as a result all my docments, every one, in onedrive now has field codes. I do not know what do to. Why does it affect every single document and is there a way i can get my citations back to normal even if it means doing it in every document?

I hope you can advice me on this
Best regards Anne Brit

Your citations are still there. It sounds like you just toggled Word's display setting:

  • Thank you, it seemed to have fixed it on its own, because everything was in order when I went back to check. My mistake with using the command button instead of option deleted one document but thats ok. But the reason this all started is due to all the notifications I get about citations being updated and a question about wether I want to press yes or no for future updates. Why do I get all these notifications? Is it because it is a shared document and is there anything I can do to avoid it?
  • You'd get those warnings if you (or someone editing the document) edited the citation text within the document, instead of properly customizing the citations:

    https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_usage#customizing_cites
  • I alway edit the proper way when I want to change something in the citation, but what when a citation shall be removed completely? what is the proper way to do that? I might be doing that wrong.
  • You need to delete it completely in the document. If you leave any part of it, you'll get those warnings. Making sure that you have field shading turned on in Word can help you make sure you're deleting the whole Word field.
  • Ok, but this seems to happen only in shared documents, so can it be due to something else than me not being exact when editing or removing citations. I am the one in charge of the citations, so the others are not using zotero in the document. But maybe some other settings are messing things up for me?

Someone else editing the document could be causing it. It depends exactly what the warning dialog is saying — it tells you the difference between the fields. A Debug ID for getting the warning would also show us.
  • Ok, thank you:)
