Zotero 10.0.6 – LibreOffice integration fails on Apple Silicon Mac with MalformedVersionException
Hello,
I'm having trouble getting the Zotero LibreOffice integration to work on my Mac. The Zotero toolbar icons are visible in LibreOffice, but clicking them does nothing. In the LibreOffice Extension Manager, the Zotero LibreOffice Integration extension is shown with an “Unknown” status.
My configuration:
- macOS Sonoma 14.6
- LibreOffice 25.8.3.2 (AARCH64 / Apple Silicon)
- Zotero 10.0.6
- Oracle JDK 27.0.1, detected and selected in LibreOffice's Java settings
- I also tried JDK 21 for Apple Silicon (ARM64).
Troubleshooting steps I've already tried:
- Removed the Zotero LibreOffice extension and reinstalled it from Zotero's Cite → Word Processors settings.
- Tried installing the LibreOffice integration manually using the `.oxt` file.
- Reset the LibreOffice user profile by renaming the `user` folder.
- Checked that Java is enabled and selected in LibreOffice.
- Tested both JDK 27 and JDK 21.
The manual installation fails with the following error:
`(com.sun.star.uno.RuntimeException) { { Message = "C++ code threw N10jfw_plugin25MalformedVersionExceptionE: std::exception", Context = (com.sun.star.uno.XInterface) @0 } }`
The Zotero toolbar icons remain unresponsive, and the extension status remains “Unknown”.
Has anyone encountered this issue with Zotero 10 and LibreOffice on Apple Silicon? Is this a known compatibility issue, or is there another workaround I should try?
Thanks in advance for your help!
