Zotero 10.6 connector failed in Safari, Golden Gate. Z Glyph present but no download initiated
Symptoms
Zotero Z glyph showing on several web pages
Normally, instead of Z, I would see a glyph like a document or video
No action occurs when Z selected
Z shows on all web pages I visit
Safari Extensions show Zotero available and checked.
Zotero app running.
Precursor events
1. Zotero 10.0.6 silently installed about 2026-10-07
2. macOS Tahoe upgraded to Golden Gate 27.0.1 (26A434) about 2026-10-15
The fault became visible after I did the MacOS upgrade. I may not have noticed the fault if it had occurred after event 1, due to my low Zotero use that period.
System
Zotero 10.0.6
MacOS Golden Gate 27.0.1 (26A434)
Safari 27.0.1 (22625.1.29.11.28)
Little Snitch Version 6.5 (7303)
MiniMac M4 Pro
Solution
Fairly trial and error...
1. Deleted Zotero.app
2. Reinstalled Zotero.app downloaded from Zotero.org
3. Restart Mac
4. Relaunch Zotero
5. Relaunch Safari
I may be dreaming but there seemed to be a delay before the Z glyph changed to the corrector translator glyph eg document.
Other things that may have contributed to success
1. Safari - Extensions > Developer > Allow unsigned extensions
2. Zotero Settings > Advanced > Database Maintenance > Reset Translators
3. Little Snitch. Create active rule for Zotero.app and Safari.app > Allow 127.0.0.1 (port 23119)
4. I confirmed Website Permissions: Click the Zotero icon in Safari and make sure permissions are set to Always Allow on Every Website. (No change made)
Deleting and re-downloading seemed necessary, rather than just compressing zotero.app, deleting zotero.app, then reinstalling from the .zip.
When this kind of error occurred previously, eg from Zotero 10.0.4 to 10.0.5 (If I recall correctly) I rebooted the Mac is Safe mode, and installed new Zotero.app by download there. This is an Apple recommendation. Not needed in this current report. The MacOS was Tahoe in this previous instance.
Recommendation
It would be nice to know in 'Flashing Lights' when a new version of Zotero.app is silently installed, so I can systematically check and reenable Safari > Zotero extension.
Diagnosis and Troubleshooting for future occurrences
If I get this fault in future, rather than my immediately troubleshooting, is there some log reporting I should enable so you can figure what's going on?

Upgrade Storage
I regularly get the problem reported above. About every 2 or 3 days.
I've not noticed any reason for why Zotero connectors just fail for me.
I used my restoration process as above, but that didn't work.
I've now installed Golden Gate 27.2 today. That didn't improve things either.
I was about to delete Zotero app, then install in Mac Safe Mode. Oh! I didn't need to.....
Ah!!!!!!!! - now that's interesting, the connector is visible for THIS page!
https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/134354/zotero-10-6-connector-failed-in-safari-golden-gate-glyph-present-but-no-download-initiated
But not these pages, which have worked before
https://catalynk.co
More interesting! I closed the following page, then reopened it. The connector is there now!
https://catalynk.co
...and now the pages that would not save now have the connector. So weird!
https://catalynk.supportbench.net/agent/article/ar-1210
https://www.wikipedia.org
It's almost like I must find a web page that has a working connector, eg forums.zotero.org/discussion and once that works, the other pages will follow????
