Local API: endpoint for the rendered image of an image/ink annotation

Hi,

I'm building an Obsidian plugin that shows and syncs Zotero annotations through the local API (no database access). Highlights, comments and notes all work well, and Zotero 10's write support makes two-way note sync possible. Thanks for that!

One gap remains: image (and ink) annotations. The local API returns their metadata, but not the image, i.e. /items//file returns 400 ("Not a file attachment")

Today the only option is to read /cache/library/.png directly. That bypasses the API, and the file only exists once the annotation has been displayed in the reader.

Would you consider an endpoint such as:

GET /api/users/0/items//image
that returns the PNG/... from the cache, rendering and caching it first if needed? A file/view/url-style variant returning the cache path would work too.

This would let any local client (note-taking plugins, MCP servers, scripts) show image annotations the same way Zotero does.

Thanks!
Benjamin
