Cannot Locate attachment - Debug ID D1358773816

So, I formatted my computer (I was and am again on Linux Mint).

My Zotero library is linked to Nextcloud, and because I had attachments with long filenames I got sync errors from Nextcloud to re-download my files.

I was able to change the name of these attachments and re-sync them to my computer.

Since I changed the filenames, I am trying to re-link the attachments. However, when I go for example to Open PDF in New Tab -> Locate...' and click it, nothing happens, i.e. the popup window allowing to select the file is not shown.

I have not found any other way to re-link the file inside Zotero other than this, but maybe I am missing something.

I don't know if this is a problem with Linux Mint, I can try to do this operations on a Windows VM.
  • Are these linked files or files in Zotero/storage synced via WebDAV?
  • Linked files. The file has a 160-character filename, which is hitting a filename-too-long error, due to (presumably) an encrypted home directory that lowers the limit from 255.

No need for this to break the Locate button, though, so we'll fix. No easy workaround at the moment other than re-adding any affected attachments (which you wouldn't want to do if they had Zotero annotations).
  • Thank you for your response. As far as I remember, my drive is not encrypted, but since it is synced to Nextcloud it might cause problems there.

I have annotations in these attachments unfortunately, so I will not re-add them for the moment.

I assume then that this error is independent of the OS?
  • Answering myself, I assume so. I just tested the same thing on a Windows VM and the issue persists
