Upgrade StorageCannot select text in PDF reader on Windows 11 25H2 (Build 26200.9168)
Hi Zotero developers,
I'm encountering an issue with the built-in PDF reader in Zotero 10.0.1.
Environment
- Zotero: 10.0.1 (64-bit)
- Operating System: Windows 11 Home Chinese
- Windows Version: 25H2
- OS Build: 26200.9168
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050
- Language: Chinese (Simplified)
Problem
The built-in PDF reader cannot select any text.
Symptoms:
- Dragging the mouse does not select text.
- Double-clicking a word does nothing.
- Ctrl+A does nothing.
- The mouse cursor changes to an I-beam when hovering over text.
- Text selection works normally in Microsoft Edge and Adobe Acrobat with the exact same PDF files.
The issue occurs with every PDF I tested.
Steps to Reproduce
1. Open any PDF attachment in Zotero.
2. Try to drag-select text.
3. Try double-clicking a word.
4. Try pressing Ctrl+A.
Expected result:
- Text should be selectable.
Actual result:
- No text can be selected at all.
Troubleshooting Performed
I have already tried the following:
- Started Zotero in Troubleshooting Mode
- Disabled all plugins
- Verified the PDFs contain selectable text
- Confirmed the same PDFs work correctly in Microsoft Edge and Adobe Acrobat
- Deleted .zotero-reader-state
- Tested multiple different PDFs
- Restarted Zotero
- Created a completely new Zotero profile
The issue still persists.
Debug Output
The following error appears when attempting to select text:
TypeError: can't access property 0, head.rects is undefined
getSelectionRanges@resource://zotero/reader/reader.js
getWordsContainingRanges@resource://zotero/reader/reader.js
_handlePointerDown@resource://zotero/reader/reader.js
Additional Information
This machine is running Windows 11 Insider Preview 25H2 (Build 26200.9168).
Could this be a compatibility issue between the new PDF reader in Zotero 10 and Windows 11 Insider builds?
If there is any additional logging or a test build that would help diagnose the issue, I'd be happy to test it.
