Bug report: reader mode places clickable "citations" where there should not be anything

On MacOS 15.7.9 (arm chip), Zotero build 10.0.2-beta.1+33297dd19

I am loving the new reader mode functionality. One issue I am finding is that the reader mode attempts to parse for clickable/hyperlink citations and footnotes differently than in the core pdf reader, so that it creates citation links where there should not be any.

For example, in the pdf of this article (https://doi.org/10.1186/gb-2004-5-11-r85), we can see blue hyperlinks to footnotes created for certain phrases inside parentheses, such as for "(50 ml Falcon tubes, 450 g, 3 min, 4°C)", and for the steps of the methods in parentheses, steps "(1), (2), and (3)."

The classic pdf mode does not add these incorrect citations here, as shown in the attached images of the same section in classic mode:
