Indexing guidance

Have not used indexing before (with defaults set to 0), but trying to set it up now.

The database has multiple groups: some 20k items, large books, and encyclopedias.

Can one index it all?
Will there be any impact on syncing?
What are the reasonable default setting and the implications?

The indexing never seems to finish (below is after 14h and the numbers do not change unless I manually ask an attachment to be indexed).

Clear and Rebuild index grey the buttons but never obviously complete or report progress. It would be great to have more UI feedback on the status of operations.

Does increasing the defaults result in Zotero having a look at partially indexed items, or does the user need to run the full, long rebuild?
