Add by Identifier for websites

I'm requesting that the Zotero "Add by identifier" could also work for weblinks, particularly those without DOIs, like websites.

Interestingly they work in ZBib, so the functionality clearly exists behind the scenes. It would be great if this same functionality would be native to Zotero itself.
  • That's absent on purpose -- saving from the webpage using the browser connector is going to work much, much better than using the URL in add by identifier.
  • Fair enough, but you could say the same for a DOI though - copy and paste it into a browser and then generate the reference like that.

I'm just trying to save an extra step for generating references from offline links without having to go to my browser, because the minute I do that, there's a good chance I'll get distracted and browse random stuff for hours before getting any work done ;)
  • No, the two are not the same. There's a dedicated API for DOIs, so adding by DOI gets reliably high-quality metadata.
That's not the case for URLs, where saving from the browser will (and increasingly so, given bot protections) get you better results.
