Smart reference popup - for footnotes
The smart reference popup is helpful so that readers don't need to open a second pane or scroll to the bottom of a PDF/EPUB chapter to view the full reference. However, the same issue recurs for footnotes/endnotes in PDFs and EPUBs. I imagine it may be more challenging for footnotes without embedded links, but it would be nice to have the same type of popup for these non-reference content.
It would also be nice to view these (and reference popups) not only as a temporary popup that requires a hover action, but also in a sidepane that might appear similarly to the comments in a Google Doc (see sidenotes: https://tfthacker.substack.com/p/tufte-style-sidenotes-in-obsidian), which can be more accessible in some contexts.
