Upgrade StorageNative support for narrative citations in Zotero?
I really like Zotero, but I think native support for narrative citations is an important feature that is still missing.
Currently, as far as I understand, the only option is to use “Omit Author” and type the author name manually. For example, Zotero can generate:
(Müller et al., 2026)
or, with “Omit Author”:
(2026)
But there seems to be no way to automatically generate a narrative citation such as:
Müller et al. (2026)
Having to type “Müller et al.” manually can be quite risky, especially during multiple rounds of manuscript editing. For example, if a citation is replaced or the author list changes, the manually entered author name is no longer linked to the Zotero reference and may become incorrect.
Are there plans to implement native narrative citations in Zotero? Is there a technical limitation or conflict with CSL that has prevented this feature from being incorporated so far?
I think this would be a very useful feature for academic writing, given how commonly narrative citations are used.
