Failure to install Zotero plugin for LibreOffice on Ubuntu 24.04 (#770890913)
Report ID: 770890913
Hi,
I'm using Zotero 9.0.6 on Ubuntu 24.04. (Incidentally, I've just asked Zotero to check for updates through the "Help" menu, and am getting an error: "Update Failed", with no reason indicated in the text field. Is it because it is already up-to-date?). I also have LibreOffice 26.2.5.2 installed (Flathub version). I had tried to install the Zotero plugin for LibreOffice before and it had failed, but when I launched Zotero today it prompted me to install it again, so I clicked yes.
Since I tried to understand what had gone wrong, I'm not in the original (spontaneous, Zotero-induced) process any more, but the error is the same when I try to launch the installation from the Zotero Settings screen. There it says that the LibreOffice add-in is not currently installed, so I click on "Install LibreOffice Add-in", then "Next". On the next screen, it says it's found the LO installation at `/run/user/1000/doc/16447c87/libreoffice/program/unopkg`. I've checked the path and the script is indeed there. So I click "Next". On the next screen, it says "Installation failed", "Installation could not be completed because an error occurred."
Following the troubleshooting instructions, I've checked the java installation in LO. This is where it may go wrong: "Use a java runtime environment" is checked, there is a version installed (Flathub 21.0.11), which is selected, but below the list it says "Location: /app/jre", which doesn't make sense (to me). So basically, LO seems happy with the java installation, but I have no idea how it's being used.
I've seen in other discussions that people have fixed Zotero integration problems in the past by installing the libreoffice-java-common package, but since that was years ago and LO isn't complaining about java, I'm wary about trying that.
I've also tried to remove (renamed) my profile folder under ~/.config/libreoffice/4. Apparently a new, default profile folder should have been created when launching LO again after that, but it hasn't. I've also tried again to install the Zotero add-in after that and the problem remained.
I haven't tried the manual installation since it says it's better to try and fix the automatic installation to keep the plugin up-to-date.
Do you have any suggestion? Any other info I can provide?
Thanks!
