Zotero tab disappeared from Word Ribbon after working initially
Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help with an issue I've been unable to resolve.
I'm using Zotero 9.0.6 (64-bit) on Windows on a government-managed work computer. When I first installed Zotero, the Word plugin worked correctly and the Zotero icon appeared in the Word ribbon. After a few months, however, the icon disappeared and has not returned, so I am unable to add in text citations.
My organisation's IT department has been assisting me with troubleshooting, but they have been unable to resolve the issue and have now recommended that I contact Zotero directly for further support.
I've already worked through the manual installation troubleshooting on the Zotero website (including verifying `Zotero.dotm`, the Word Startup folder, and reinstalling the Word add-in from "Settings → Cite → Word Processors"). The reinstall completes successfully, and I've confirmed that the template is in the correct Word Startup folder.
I've also confirmed that:
* Macros are enabled in Word.
* Zotero is not listed under Word's Disabled Items.
* Zotero does not appear under COM Add-ins.
* Restarting both Word and Zotero does not restore the Zotero tab.
Given that the plugin worked initially and then disappeared without any intentional changes on my part, could this be related to a Word update, a Zotero update, or restrictions/security policies on a government-managed computer? Are there any additional diagnostics, logs, or troubleshooting steps you would recommend to identify why Word is no longer loading the Zotero icon into the Word Ribbon?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
