Returning to Zotero after a decade

Howdy all,

I'm returning to Zotero after an extended absence. I've got several hundred, perhaps a thousand PDFs that I've already downloaded but aren't in my Zotero library.
1. Is there a way to bulk import pdfs into Zotero?
2. Is there a way to extract metadata from the files themselves and rename them on my computer? Many of them have non-standardized file names, and I'd love a way to standardize them in bulk.

TIA - Glad to be back.
  • 1. Yes. Out of the box, you can either select a bunch of pdfs in your operating system and drag them to Zotero or us "Add File" and then bulk select with shift+click or ctrl/cmd+a. There's also a folder import plugin: https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-folder-import

    2. Zotero tries to do this automatically on adding the files -- doesn't always work: it'll work most reliably on academic article PDFs.
