Zotero Gemini Notebook project (formerly Zotero NotebookLM)

edited July 20, 2026
Aloha,

Ten days after our prior release, and Google has re-branded NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook! We have updated the connector to operate with Google's limited changes to the site, and taken the opportunity to make a few fixes / upgrades in version 0.3.1.

- adds “Export Selected to Gemini Notebook” to Zotero’s item context menu
- fixes large transfers that could exceed Chrome’s 64 MiB extension-message limit
- supports automatic updates for the Zotero plugin
- improves the Zotero-to-Chrome handoff instructions

Google Chrome is required. The companion browser extension interfaces with the Gemini Notebook web interface, so future Google interface changes may require fixes--we're standing by on that one.

Tested with Zotero 9.0.x, Chrome 150, and macOS. Bug reports and suggestions are very welcome, particularly from Windows and Linux users.

Due to recent url change from google, seems broken again?
Zotero plugin works fine. But the google chrome extension seems to not recognize that Gemini Notebook page is open.

    Chrome Version 151.0.7922.138
    Zotero: 9.0.6
    MacOS: 26.6.1

FWIW, ditto. First ever attempt using the extension. It wants to work; the pop-up is there. Just no joy with notebooklm.google.com URL.

Brave Browser: 1.93.134 (Official Build) (64-bit)
    Chromium: 151.0.7922.108
    Zotero: 9.0.6 (64-bit)
Windows: Windows 11 Home; Version 25H2; OS build 26200.8973
  • The zotero-gemini-notebook connector aims to make it easier to create Gemini (née NotebookLM) Notebooks directly from collections of Zotero articles. The connector consists of a Zotero plugin and paired Chrome extension, and aims to serve Gemini Notebook users on Personal/Pro plans, which do not have API access.

The new release at https://github.com/peterdresslar/zotero-gemini-notebook/releases updates compatibility for Zotero 10 as well as the migration of the NotebookLM website to notebook.google.com. This release also improves the user interface of the Chrome extension. And, we have extended the product to include an MCP, a beta implementation that we hope to apply for new use cases over time. Feedback on the MCP, as well as the entire connector, is greatly appreciated.

The Zotero plugin now automatically upgrades from versions starting with v0.3.4. We hope to release a published version of the Chrome extension soon in order to make the entire upgrade process easier.
  • Wouldn't it be better to just keep this in one thread? https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/132828/zotero-gemini-notebook-project-formerly-zotero-notebooklm#latest

This is also the main support channel for Zotero users and I'm not sure a separate thread for a minor version of a plugin is necessary/adds noise to the forum.

  • Apologies. Is there a plugins channel?
