Display assigned citation number for previously cited items in the citation dialog
I frequently work on long biomedical manuscripts using numeric citation styles such as Vancouver.
The citation dialog already indicates whether an item has been cited before, but it does not display its assigned citation number.
It would be very helpful if previously cited items displayed their current citation number, for example:
✓ Ison MG. Donor-derived infections... [12]
✓ Clemente WT. Leishmaniasis... [38]
✓ Pierrotti LC. Arboviruses... [71]
This would make it much easier to:
reuse an existing citation instead of accidentally creating a duplicate;
verify that the correct reference is being inserted;
review long manuscripts containing hundreds of citations;
work efficiently with multi-author manuscripts.
Since citation numbers are already recalculated by Zotero whenever the document is updated, the displayed number could simply reflect the current numbering.
As a possible future enhancement, clicking the citation number could navigate to its first occurrence in the document.
