I want bibliography to show six authors before et al.

The journal is asking for my manuscript to show six authors before et al. I open Style Manager and the Styles show but don't highlight, so I'm stymied even before trying to modify the Style. What am I missing?
  • Which journal? Can you link to the journal's guidelines?
  • But also, you don't select citation styles in the style manager. You select them for each document in the Document Preferences in the word processor plugin.

The style manager is just for removing installed styles
  • Thank you both for responding.

To damnation: The link is https://www.nature.com/bmt/authors-and-referees/gta and these instructions are repeated in the acceptance letter that I received.
To adamsmith: I am aware that you pick the style directly in Word via the plug-in - what I'm trying to do is modify a style to show six authors then et al.
  • I figured it out. It went quite smoothly using the Zotero app rather than going through the plug-in. I went Tools>Developer>Style Editor, chose New England Journal of Medicine Style, which was the Style in my manuscript, then changed (edited) the bibliography line, which originally showed 7 and 3, to 7 and 6. I immediately went back to my document and re-chose New England Journal of Medicine Style for bibliography, and bingo. New England Journal of Medicine defaults to 6 authors but if more then inserts et al after 3 (??? seems odd). Now it always shows all authors up to six then et al unless I want it to go back to the original format.
