Zotero connector is very slow and most times does not download the article pdfs

  • I am experiencing something similar. I use Zotero 9.0.6 in a PC running Windows 11 Proff 64 bit. Zotero connector is very slow and most times does not download the article pdfs. Moving between folders within Zotero is slow. Sometimes the GUI freezes. I have an unlimited quota Sync plan and an article database of more than 37,000 files. I have renamed the zotero.sqlite file and am now rebuilding the database from Sync but is taking very long time. I have been experiencing these delays since the last Zotero update. Please advise.

See Reporting Problems for the two things we always need in order to help. For performance problems in Zotero, restart in Troubleshooting Mode (Help → "Restart in Troubleshooting Mode…”), which temporarily disables all plugins. If that fixes it, you'll need to identify the plugin that's causing it and then report the problem to the plugin's developer. If not, we'd want to see a Debug ID for Zotero startup through an operation that was slow, using the Help → Debug Output Logging → "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option.

You should never do drastic things like this if you're going to post here. It just causes more problems and makes it harder for us to help you.
  • Thanks. I've restarted in Troubleshooting Mode and in this mode Zotero runs more smoothly. I removed the plugin "awesome gpt plugin" since I rarely use it. I also placed back in the Data folder the sqlite file removed before. I did that because I saw a recommendation to do so for those who have a Sync plan to regenerate the database. Still, Zotero connector sometimes gets 2 copies of the same pdf linked to the same reference. The other plugins that I maintain in Zotero are "Better BibTex for Zotero", "Better Notes for Zotero" and "PMCID fetcher for Zotero". All of them allow automatic updates. Since I have such a large library, I am not sure whether I should expect Zotero from getting slower.
  • The recommendation I saw to repair the database was this: https://www.zotero.org/utils/dbfix/

We can only comment on problems that you encounter with all plugins disabled, and for those, see Reporting Problems.

That's not a "recommendation" — that's a page that's linked to solely if Zotero encounters actual database corruption.
  • OK, thanks for following this thread.
