Omit Item Type When Manually Creating a Reference

Is there an alternative in Zotero for manually creating a reference that does not require selecting an Item Type? In EndNote I can manually create a reference and add the necessary data without selecting an Item Type. I would like to be able to do the same in Zotero, if possible.
