MS Word crashes an already made file

Hello,

I have the problem that Word crashes on my already made filde when I try to add a citation. The problem first occured today after I used the document for 2 months now.
I have already followed all the steps in here (https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/debugging_broken_documents).
In general a new document works fine but my already made document does crash. I cannot copy it into a new file.

I use Windows 11 and the newest Version of Office 365.

Hope someone knows an answer.
  • What exact Word version?

A Word crash is a Word bug, but see the last step on that page, which will be definition isolate the problem in the existing document. You can also send a document excerpt that reproduces the problem via email, as explained there.
  • Microsoft® Word für Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2606 Build 16.0.20131.20112) 64 Bit

I have traced the smallest part which causes the issue. Unfortunately I cannot send the excerpt since the problem is gone when I save it in a new file. The strange thing is that this part does not contain a citation yet. After and before this part all seems to work normally.
  • It looks like there's a newer version of Word — the latest is 20131.20154. You should try updating.
  • Unfortunately that was not the reason causing the issue...

Not sure what you mean by this. You make a copy of the file in File Explorer, open it, and if the problem still occurs, you cut it down in halves until you find the smallest portion that reproduces the problem. At that point, you save it and send it to us. You're not saving it as a new file from Word (though copying the whole document into a new document is a troubleshooting step).
  • Thanks for the help. I will do that!
