Search: keep search term when changing library selection (works in Advanced search)

Frequently I search part of my library for a search term by entering that term into the top search field. When I then want to change the search scope to either be applied to another library folder or the entire library, whenever a different location on the left library panel is selected, the search term is gone.

Wouldn't it make sense to keep search terms until they are cleared by the user?
  • As a default behavior, no — there’s no reason to think that the search term would apply to the new location, and it would be confusing and alarming to switch somewhere else (which could even be a different library or some specialized view) and not see any items. Same with an active selection in the tag selector, which should be consistent with the quick search but which couldn’t even be logically visible in a new location that didn’t have the same items.

But see the advanced-search beta announcement:
Since the advanced-search pane persists when you click between collections, this also addresses the longstanding request to be able to pin searches when moving between collections.
  • Thanks, advanced search works great.
