Apa style with DOI AND link

Normally, I know it is bad form to include both, as well as to include proxied links in a citation, but I have a particular niche use case: I create suggested reading lists for curriculum development at my university.

As such, for each resource I need to include an APA citation (including DOI) so students can cite their course readings.

But I also need to provide library-proxied links to each reading, so the curriculum designers can insert the reading into the course.

Right now I am using the apa style+abstract style to create my bibliographies (manually first moving the proxied links from the url field to the abstract field in zotero for each source).

But is there an easier way?! Some way to output an APA bibliography that includes BOTH the doi and url metadata?

[Ps- I have tried my hand at editing an existing style code, with only failure. If anyone has any advice on how I can correctly modify an existing apa style to achieve this, I would be grateful]
  • Ideally there shouldn't be proxied URLs in the URL field in Zotero, but either way:
Yes, it's possible to do this by a) checking the "include URLs" check box in the Cite tab of Zotero and b) then modifying the citation style. APA is a lot more complicated than most other styles -- is using APA essential?
  • Correct. I understand that proxied urls should not be used in the URL field for normal citations, but in this case I am required to provide the proxied url along with the APA citation.

Sadly yes, APA is required, which is a pain I know

My current workflow of putting the proxied url into the abstract field may end up the easiest workaround! :)
  • You can add extra text to APA references by adding it to Extra like this:

    References: https://example.com

I suggest doing that with a copy of the item (not the normal one you cite in your work) so that the extra text doesn’t show up all the time. Making a separate Group library for these items is a good idea
  • Thanks, I will explore the "extra" field.

Apologies for not saying so, but I assumed it was obvious that this was a separate collection of items only collected for this specific curriculum development purpose, TOTALLY SEPERATE from items that use for my own research and writing.
