Updating Citations

I'm stuck in a vicious cycle of updating a citation in google docs (on Chrome). I am able to select my citation from the Zotero app and enter them into the document successfully (I see the document update), but a pop up says "Zotero is updating your document.
Please wait…" indefinitely and will not allow me to navigate my document. The only fix is to reload google docs, but updating any future citations tells me "A word processor integration command is already running." I then quit and re-open Zotero to allow me to enter the next citation.

Is there a bug, or a fix for this? It takes me forever to update just a single citation.
