Cannot change attachment linkMode during sync, even in Troubleshooting Mode

I am getting a sync error in My Library:

ZoteroObjectUploadError: Cannot change attachment linkMode

The error appears during syncing and stops upload with:

Made no progress during upload -- stopping

This still happens in Troubleshooting Mode / safeMode. The error report shows that all extensions were disabled.

Previously, I removed another set of affected attachment PDFs from the Zotero trash, but syncing then stopped again with a new set of item keys.

I am using Zotero 9.0.4 on macOS 26.5.1.

Installed plugins, currently disabled in Troubleshooting Mode, include:
Scite Zotero Plugin, Notero, Inciteful Zotero Plugin, ZotMoov, Translate for Zotero, Better Notes for Zotero, Better BibTeX.

Because the affected item keys keep changing after deleting attachments, I have stopped deleting more attachments and would appreciate advice on how to repair the affected attachment items safely.
  • This would've been caused by some plugin you used, so I'm afraid we're not able to help. Something changed existing attachments from stored files to linked files, which isn't a valid operation. (The plugins that do properly create new attachments.)

    Best I can suggest would be to delete your local database and pull it down again from the online library via sync.
