New Zotero plugin: listen to papers with read-along text
Hi everyone,
I built a small open-source Zotero Desktop plugin for people who keep papers in Zotero but want to listen to them away from the desk.
The plugin adds a “Listen to this paper” command to Zotero. It works on one selected item or local PDF attachment at a time, uploads only that selected PDF, and opens a listen2papers reader page with generated audio, synchronized read-along text, and saved progress. The reader can continue on the web, and there is also an iOS app for listening on the go.

Release:

A few notes:
- Zotero 7 through 9.0.x
- no Zotero account sync required
- selected local PDFs only
- revocable plugin token, not a password
- listen2papers.com has a free tier for roughly 5-10 papers per month, depending on paper size
I’m Alexander, a solo builder working on applied AI tools for research and knowledge work. I’d be grateful for feedback from Zotero users, especially around installation friction and wording.
