Upgrade StorageQuestion about (kind of) merging two Zotero accounts
I’m keen to ask a bit of advice from the Zotero team on how to best “merge” two Zotero accounts (using quotation marks here, as I’m aware merge functionality as such doesn’t exist).
Here is the scenario:
Account 1: initially set up to be personal account. Has been used for posting on Zotero forums (as I’m doing now). No current reference data (as that is all now in Account 2).
Account 2: initially set up to be work account. Contains all my reference data. Has not been used to post to Zotero forums.
As part of the “merging” process, I’d like to retain the username and email address from Account 1 and, of course, most importantly the reference data from Account 2.
My understanding is that data export/import would not be the best way to do this (e.g., it wouldn’t retain original date added?). If so, I’m thinking whether the following might work:
1. Temporarily change the username & email associated with Account 1
2. Update the username & email of Account 2 to those previously associated with Account 1 (assuming the system allows to do this?)
3. If Step 2 is successful, delete Account 1
The main questions on my mind at this point:
1. Would the system allow the username “transfer” using the above-described process?
2. Are there any potential downsides to consider? One impact I can think of is that my account would no longer be associated with my posts on Zotero Forums. Not sure if there’s a way to get around this, but this would seem like a fairly minor issue.

Your Zotero profile url would then be the same, and @ mentions of you on the forums should notify the correct user, but any old threads you started/posted in would not notify the new account. It is not possible to transfer a forum account like that. You could bookmark any threads you wanted to be notified of replies for.
