Nothing is working !

I have a deadline tomorrow and need to update one citation and I have been getting the green loading bar for hours. Please advise what too do. I have 300+ references and 200+ pages. I need to track changes for submission purposes, while I thought this may be an issue, I also created a copy where I accepted all changes, and error still occurred. I have also opened new doc and copied all contents and tried to insert citation and did not work. The only thing that produced a result was that I started a plain doc and the reference/ citation worked.

Please assist - is it just that my doc is too long.
