I’m running into Zotero/Google Docs issues after the Zotero 9 update, mainly with older (“legacy”) G

Initially, Zotero was corrupting documents during citation refreshes (e.g., large sections/pages disappearing). Deleting and recreating the bibliography seemed to stop the document corruption, suggesting the bibliography or citation fields may have been corrupted.

However, the issue now seems broader than a single document. I’m intermittently unable to add/edit citations from Firefox at all — the citation window opens, but sometimes fails to proceed or insert the citation.

What I’ve noticed:

New Google Docs generally work
Older Google Docs are much more likely to fail
The issue occurs across multiple documents
Firefox + the Zotero Connector seem unstable since the update

At this point, I’m considering fully reinstalling Zotero + the Firefox connector and, if that fails, rebuilding the manuscript in a fresh Google Doc.

Has anyone else experienced this with Zotero 9, particularly with Firefox or legacy Google Docs?
  • Nothing to do with Zotero 9. Google has been making changes to Google Docs that have affected integration.

Start by making sure you have Zotero Connector 5.0.208. Don't reinstall anything else.

If you're still having trouble, see Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents, including the step at the end. Also see the note about providing a Report ID and sending a copy of an affected excerpt of the document.
