Zotero Web Connector not functioning

I realised I couldn't save pdfs to zotero from my browser (a pop up said an issue prevented my file from being uploaded to zotero). i uninstalled and reinstalled. Now i don't even get the option to save to zotero at all. the zotero extension icon on my browser is gray, is that normal?
