RIS import incorrectly maps RPRT (Report) to Journal Article
Report ID:654357257
Zotero Version: 9.0.4 (64-bit)
Operating System: Windows 11
Steps to Reproduce:
Download the RIS file from NIST SP 800-145 official page: https://tsapps.nist.gov/publication/get_pdf.cfm?pub_id=909616
Direct RIS download: https://tsapps.nist.gov/publication/get_ris.cfm?pub_id=909616
In Zotero, go to File → Import and select the downloaded RIS file.
Observe the imported item in Zotero.
What happened:
The imported item's type is "Journal Article" (J/OL when exported).
What I expected:
The imported item should be "Report" (R or R/OL), because:
The RIS file contains TY - RPRT (Report type)
The item is clearly a technical report from NIST (NIST SP 800-145)
Additional context:
This issue persists after resetting translators (Edit → Preferences → Advanced → Files and Folders → Reset Translators)
The issue also persists in Troubleshooting Mode (all plugins disabled)
I am using the latest version of Zotero
Sample RIS file content (first few lines):
text
TY - RPRT
ID - 909616
T1 - The NIST Definition of Cloud Computing
A1 - Mell, Peter M.
A1 - Grance, Timothy
PY - 2011
SP - NIST SP 800-145

The sample RIS imports as a report in my Zotero. (And the RIS download link is invalid.)
But I can reproduce that report importing as a journal article from https://www.nist.gov/publications/nist-definition-cloud-computing, because the Embedded Metadata translator used on that page doesn't see any of the metadata that it uses to identify an item as a report. We can probably add a translator for that catalog to fix the issue.
In the future, please just provide a sample URL that produces an incorrect item (in this case, https://www.nist.gov/publications/nist-definition-cloud-computing), and describe what's wrong with it. Don't enlist an LLM to generate a garbage diagnosis for your post. That doesn't help us at all, and it actually wastes everyone's time trying to reproduce a nonexistent issue.
