Zotero is extremely slow in long Word document

Hi,

I'm working on a approx. 250 pages long Word document, using MacOS system. Zotero is not responding when I tried to insert citations or add bibliography. I read some responses in the forum that disabling "Automatically update citations" will help. But disabling "Automatically update citations" in Word already takes ages for Zotero to respond. Plus, though the auto-update is disabled, it still does not help with the speed ...

I'm wondering if there is any fix to this problem? Many thanks.
