Using Zotero with a word document stored in OneDrive

Hi,
As a librarian I have been teaching students Zotero for years. I have always taught them to store the word-file they are working on locally on there harddrive - telling them that, espcially large documents, can corupt if they add, edit etc. from Zotero to a word-document stored on any cloud-drive. Because of the upload/download-situation.
I recommend them to have a locally stored folder containing "Todays Work" nad them by the end of the day backing up to whatever cloud service.

Now I'm looking for documentation for my practice - is it (still) the case that it
can corupt the linkage between the specific word-document and zotero to store the Word-file in a cloud while working?

No, it's the Zotero data directory that should never be stored in cloud storage. Storing a Word document in cloud storage should generally be fine.

(Zotero users have sometimes run into an issue when storing Word documents in OneDrive specifically if there are spaces in the filename. See Step 7 on Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents. It's not clear how much this still happens, but if it does, renaming the file to avoid spaces should fix it.)
