Globally, if I'm understanding you correctly. I searched for a column in the collections view that would, for example, show a numeric value for how many times I had cited the articles and books visible in the collection that was selected. I had already read, tagged and highlighted all the books and articles in the collection and wanted to check if there were any I hadn't cited.
Current possible approaches could include adding a manual tag to each item as you cite it (binary), or increment a cited number in an item note, or for a single collection/paper you could move items to a 'cited' subcollection as you cite them.

A possible solution that was wasn't mentioned in that forum thread is for the counts to be calculated when the refresh is used in the zotero document plugin. That would produce a more accurate count as it would avoid missing citations that were later deleted, pasted, etc, given that refreshing is necessary as a document reaches its final drafts.
